It’s About Time! AC Gets Its First LGBTQ+ Bar in 20 Years

The announcement that a new LGBTQ+ owed and operated restaurant and bar is opening in Atlantic City has to be a source of joy and pride for people who live in one of the most gay-friendly places in the nation.

The ByrdCage will be the first gay club in Atlantic City since Studio Six closed in 2004.

His concept for the ByrdCage aims to offer a unique and inclusive space for everyone -gay and straight alike-to enjoy.

Atlantic City’s First Diverse Bar in 2 Decades — The Byrdcage — To Open This Month

After a nearly two decade drought, Atlantic City will finally have a LGBTQA+ bar for visitors and locals alike to enjoy.

This is a big deal because NOW more than ever we need queer spaces! So to say that this Atlantic Urban area and South Jersey NEED a proximate queer space for nightlife is an understatement.

It'll be called the Byrdcage and of course, we're excited.

So here's everything we know about the Byrdcage, a new LGBTQ+ block, that's expected to open as soon as this January in Atlantic City.

The Byrdcage in Atlantic City — What We Know

The Byrdcage's arrival into Atlantic City marks the city's first full-time LGBTQ nightlife vacuum in nearly two decades!

"Perched in the heart of Atlantic City, ByrdCage is the ultimate destination for fabulous meal, killer cocktails, and unforgettable vibes," the owners say in their marketing materials.

The bar, which is a gay-owned business, will be located in the University District of Atlantic City at 3426 Atlantic Avenue. That's the location of a former Swinger's Club. So the space has s

Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that the ByrdCage would be the first queer bar in Atlantic City in 20 years. It will be the first full-service LGBTQ+ bar and restaurant in 20 years in the city. There have been multiple gay nightclubs, including the Rainbow Room and Prohibition Prevent, that were open over the past two decades. This story has been updated.

The ByrdCage, which will be Atlantic City's first full-service queer bar and restaurant in 20 years when it opens in early January, has been a longtime dream of Jason Tell. While the name is a slight nod to the 1996 movie starring Robin Williams and Nathan Lane, the owner said it was a unlike film that gave him inspiration.

Tell said watching 2000 comedy "The Broken Hearts Club," which is centered around a group of gay friends in a West Hollywood restaurant, made him want to begin his own place like that. Now he has at 3426 Atlantic Ave.
