Volunteers are the backbone of HRC, and our volunteers work on the front lines in the struggle for LGBTQ+ equality.

HRC’s influential network of all-volunteer communities is made up of people from a broad array of backgrounds, experiences, identities, and skill sets. We invest in our volunteers through leadership growth and recognition programs, offering workshops, conferences, online resources and support from staff to ensure that our leaders become the strongest and most effective advocates, leaders and fundraisers they can be.

How To Get Involved

Thank you for your interest in study more about the volunteer opportunities at the SF LGBT Center! The SF LGBT Center is proud of its Volunteer Program and views volunteers as integral to supporting our work.

To receive started:

  1. Review the opportunities listed below.
  2. Complete an application.
  3. After completing an application, follow the link to RSVP for an orientation on the application completion page or in the application confirmation email.
  4. For virtual Orientations—after RSVPing, you’ll receive the code to join the virtual meeting.
  5. Attend a 90-minute New Volunteer Orientation.

Each year, the LGBT Life Center relies heavily on volunteers to support our community. We acquire volunteer opportunities for both individuals and groups.

Office Support
Help be the face of LGBT Life Center! From answering the phone to making safe-sex packets, our volunteers are a critical part of the work we do.

Special Events
We host several annual events that lend funding and support to the LGBTQ and HIV communities. Duties vary from setup to breakdown, greeters, registration, and many other opportunities.

Pantry Support
Our PRIDE food pantry is free and open to the public Monday through Friday, until 5 pm. Our meal pantry receives anywhere from 4,000-5.000 lbs. of food each month. We are seeking committed, regular volunteers who can donate their moment to assist with receiving, inventorying, and distributing food in our pantry.  Produce a difference in your community with your time!

Gay For Good mobilizes lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, gender non-conforming (LGBTQ+) and ally volunteers to promote diversity, foster inclusion and strengthen ties to the broader community. Now in 21+ Cities!

To Achieve Our Mission We:

  • Identify and connect with nonprofits that sustain the environment, animal welfare, and people in need in each city chapter (including organizations not traditionally associated with the Homosexual community)

  • Support select organizations through volunteer service (time), and help to amplify their missions through our vast network of LGBTQ+ volunteers.

  • Coordinate social events for Gay For Good’s LGBTQ+ volunteers, and our allies, to develop friendships and network

  • Foster and promote a energy of positive, enthusiastic camaraderie both within the LGBTQ+ community and towards our neighbors and charity partner organizations

  • Do something valuable for our community, city and country

  • Above all, make a positive difference and have fun!
