Gay beastly

Unlike his brothers and sisters who ask for jewels and fine clothes as presents, adolescent Beau requests only a single rose as a tribute for his father to bring him back from his travels. But when a storm forces the merchant to take shelter in a mysterious magic castle, he finds his host, a talking beast, feels angry that his hospitality has been abused when a rose is plucked from his garden. The price he asks in exchange for the man's life is one of his sons to live with him in his castle.... Only his youngest and most handsome son Beau is willing to take his father place and depart home to dwell with the seeming monster.... Can a enchanted Beast and a handsome new boy find a magical kind of love?

In my youth and even today I love the fantasy and magic of fairy tales, and I grew up longing for a prince charming of my have one day. Of course being a little boy, support then, I tended to imagine myself in the role of a princess as that seemed the only option.

But happily times acquire changed, and I can be a prince and own a prince…so I have adapted some classic fairy stories for other like-minded boys (and girls) to enjoy.

"To Smithereens" LP

Gay Beast formed mid-2005 during a fit of anxiety towards Midwestern passive aggression and as an attempt to make tune that was queer in composition and aesthetic. Wielding a battery of drums, scraped and hammered guitars, chanted vocals, retro-future synths, saxophone, and other electronics, the trio (Angela Gerend, Daniel Luedtke, Isaac Rotto) build songs on grounds that adjoin complexity and catchiness, a space where both abrasion and tunefulness inhabit.

With releases on DNT, Gilgongo, and Skin Graft, Gay Beast own garnered a reputation for uniqueness on the rock fringe, their sound being both too weird for the stereotype of a “gay band” and “too gay” for the noise-rock set. Upon examination of the influence blender, one finds remnants of Devo, Captain Beefheart, equatorial pop-rock from the 60s and 70s, no wave, and feminist theory. This concoction, delivered via Gay Beast’s unique political approach to composition, is explored heavily on their third album “To Smithereens”, appearing Winter 2010 on Skin Graft Records.
