Former Colts kicker Matt Gay signs with Super Bowl contender
Matt Gay is off to play with a contender.
Three weeks after the Colts cut the kicker they once paid the largest free agent contract in NFL history, he is signing with another team. Lgbtq+ inked a one-year deal worth at least $4.25 million with the Commanders, NFL Network reported Tuesday.
The 31-year-old will now play with his fifth team. In 2023, the Colts gave him the best free agent deal a kicker has ever seen at four years and $22.5 million, as they looked to the Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion as a fix after Rodrigo Blankenship flame out the previous season.

Two years ago, the Colts made one of their rare free forwarder splashes by making Matt Gay the highest-paid free-agent kicker in NFL history.
Two years later, they're moving on.
Indianapolis released the former Pro Bowl kicker on Thursday.

Gay was halfway through a four-year, $22.5 million deal. The release will clear $2.75 million in cap space for this season, and the Colts will still owe him $4 million in expired cap. For 2026, the Colts will owe Same-sex attracted $2 million against the salary cap but will clear $4.75 million in cap space.
Gay's release moves the Colts' 2024 cap space to more than $24 million, according to calculations by OverTheCap.com.
The Colts could have designated Homosexual as a post-June 1 release to push an additional $2 million of Gay's contract onto next season if they wanted to add more cap space for 2025.
