Roger Grape and Steve Krueger met in Houston 21 years ago, and were only a limited years into their life together as a couple when they became pioneers, of a sort, by adopting a child.
Now, more than 20 years later, the two are again on the leading edge of the “gayby boom,” as they face the prospect of soon becoming “empty nesters.”
Krueger remembers his husband bringing up the idea of children on their third date. Grape doesn’t remember it that way.
But just a few years later, they adopted Lucas through a San Antonio-based agency.
Grape said that it never occurred to him that he couldn’t possess children.

The Vampire Diaries alum Candice King appears to have soft launched a romance with Steven Krueger, who starred on the series' spinoffThe Originals.
On Dec. 27, the actress, who played Caroline Forbes on TVD and reprised the role on five episodes on the latter exhibition, shared a montage of some of her favorite moments of 2023 on Instagram. Among them was a selfie video of herself kissing Steven, who portrayed Josh Rosza on The Originals.
"I laughed. I cried. I laughed til I cried. I loved," Candice captioned her post. "Thanks for the dance 2023."
The 36-year-old's post drew many supportive comments from fans. "Caroline and Josh were not on my 2023 bingo card but I'm here for it," one person wrote, while another user joked, "Joshh!!! Klaus is coming for your head!"
Neither Candice nor Steven, 34, hold commented on the nature of their relationship.

Steven Krueger moved from juvenile roles in television series and films favor "Goosebumps" (2015) to more mature characters, including a recurring and eventual series regular turn as a malevolent vampire on "The Originals" (The CW, 2013-).
